• Mechanical Engineering For Non-Mechanical Engineers - This course will explain the basic concepts that underlie the application of Mechanical Engineering practice, is of benefit to both the individual and the industry in which the individual is employed. The procurement, installation and operation of equipment is often under the control of Engineers and Technicians who, although qualified in their own discipline, may not have received formal Mechanical Engineering training.

These are the current requirements for renewing your South Dakota Engineering license. We will always provide the newest information available and will update the requirements as soon as there are changes.


• To renew your Engineers License in the state of South Dakota, you are required to complete 30 professional development hours every 2 years.
• Engineer licenses expire every 2 years. Professional development hours must be completed prior to expiration. A maximum of 15 excess professional development hours may be carried over to the next renewal cycle.
• A minimum of 10 professional development hours must be in professional management subjects such as computer courses, ethics, etc. A minimum of 20 professional development hours must be in technical subjects that directly safeguard the public’s life, health, safety, and welfare.
• Licensees shall maintain a record of professional development hours completed for a minimum of three years. The Board shall randomly audit for verification purposes.
