• NAHI Standards of Practice - The subject matter of this continuing education course will cover themes such as the minimum standards of performance for a written report on a residential home inspection performed according the National Association of Home Inspectors, Inc. (NAHITM).
• Exteriors/Interiors - The Interiors portion of the course will provide knowledge about drywalls, ceilings, flooring, interior doors, stairs, cabinets, countertops, appliances, and basements. And it also teaches about the common problems, defects, and installation process involved in an interior inspection.With the Exterior portion of this course you will gain a solid understanding of lots, landscape, retaining walls, exterior siding, exterior doors, driveways, patios, windows, and more. This course also teaches about the common problems, defects, and installation process involved in an exterior inspection.

These are the current requirements for renewing your South Dakota Home Inspectors license. We will always provide the newest information available and will update the requirements as soon as there are changes.


• To renew your Home Inspectors License in the state of South Dakota, you are required to complete 24 hours of continuing education every 2 years.
• Continuing education must be completed by December 31st of the renewal year. The same renewal hours may not be used for more than one renewal cycle.
• The Commission must approve continuing education courses. Some of the subjects that are acceptable are building codes, computer skills, ethics, report writing, etc.
• The licensee shall submit proof of continuing education completion to the Commission with renewal. Course providers must provide a certificate of completion to each licensee upon completion of the course. Licensees are to maintain a record of continuing education completion until the next renewal period has been completed.
