Here is a list of the South Dakota real estate broker continuing education currently under development.

  • Ethics in Real Estate - This online course covers duties to clients and customers, duties to the public, duties to brokers, and case studies.
  • Tax Free Exchanges - The topics included in this course covers the basics of a tax free exchange of investment property. Topics covered include requirements of a tax free exchange, types of exchanges and the methods for transferring title when an exchange takes place.
  • Overview of Real Estate Law - The subject matter of this continuing education course will cover themes such as provisional status, reciprocity agreements, real estate forms, continuing education, prelicensure, and the South Dakota Real Esate Commision.
  • Contracts and Closing Statements - This course will provide knowledge for preclosing procedures, RESPA, closing staements, prorations, contracts used in real estate, discharge of contracts, federal and local laws and requirements, and pertinent legal information.
    These are the current requirements for renewing your South Dakota Real Estate Broker license. We will always provide the newest information available and will update the requirements as soon as there are changes.

  • To renew your Real Estate Brokers License in the state of South Dakota, you are required to complete 24 hours of continuing education every 2 years.
  • Real Estate Broker’s Licenses expire every 2 years. Continuing education must be completed prior to expiration. A maximum of 6 hours of independent study may be used toward the continuing education requirements per renewal cycle.
  • A minimum of 12 hours must be completed in required courses related to real estate contracts, real estate license law, ethics, fair housing, antitrust, environmental issues, the American with Disabilities Act, brokerage services, or any combination of these subjects. The remaining hours may be completed in elective courses.
  • Course providers must provide a certificate of completion to each licensee upon completion of the course. Licensees are encouraged to maintain a record of continuing education completion certificates. The Board shall randomly audit for verification of continuing education compliance.
